Sunday 9th June 2013 Absolutely phenomenal two weeks – and we’ve managed to get the spawning out of the way too! Banton’s showed signs first and then the others soon followed with River lake being the last but still no news about Wyre as yet. All lakes have fished well and many thanks to everyone who has took the time to post / send pictures and also photographs. Luke Worthington The first 2 caught from peg 11 fishing about 50yards out, 3 rods close together fishing simple blow black style rig over a scattering of cell boilies. The other 2 are from peg 9 fishing along the margin were the trees are, fish crashing there all day on the same tactics of peg 11 Peter Eastwood with his 12lb 8 oz carp caught on double fake corn popped up to the island on sunny 2 John Hampson 17lb 12oz . Caught on 12mm banoffee popup with fake corn to the island on sunny 2. Wez Herriman S1 All on stiff hinge rig over the moon with them strawberry and scopex popups all the way . Considering they are in spawning mode . About 50to60 yards on gravel bar sunny one I scattered about 2 kilos of crave over the spot thanks Sally I will be back soon!!! The one at night was 23lb6 and the day one was 18lb7 my new pb. There are spaces still left for the Wyreside Open – the draw will be done by sealed envelope and everyone will randomly pick their own. Inside will be the lake and peg number, a set of rules and a food order sheet for evening meals (full English breakfast is already included) the draw will be on Friday the 5th July at 10.30am. Match starts at 12 midday Friday and ends at 12 midday Sunday. If you would like further details please check out the poster on the website and to enrol please call myself (Sally) or Charlotte and we will book you in –there is a £40 deposit to pay please and then the balance of £35 is payable on arrival. I’m very proud to announce that we have won the coveted accolade of ‘Employer of the Year’ from the LMC college & University for outstanding achievement working with apprentices. We currently have two working with us - Callum and Charlotte - and they are both doing a marvellous job and have very bright futures ahead here at Wyreside. I would like to personally thank Callum for nominating us for this award, it is wonderful to know that our mentoring / training is appreciated and that we have such a great young team here at Wyreside – hopefully they will be able to keep things going in my old age J The WYTS club –Yesterday (Sunday the 19th) we had a great time and for time in the weather was very kind to us! Most of the students caught (except for me ) and we had good fun and got a sun tan at the same time! This month’s lesson was casting, that was a laugh and in the last session we learnt about setting up our rods and hook tying. All interesting stuff, especially for me and I even stayed down there after the club had finished – it was a great day. A big thank you to Nick Butterfieid – who is a fabulous coarse match angler, who was intending to drop off his daughter and ended up becoming a tutor for the day – you saved the day Nick! For our local weather please click to link http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2644972 Private matches (for coarse carp and pike) are available on all day ticket waters - THIS WEEKS CATCH REPORT

We are now fully booked for Bank holiday weekend - some spaces are available from Sunday afternoon on River lake - Fox’s lake is open for day or night fishing.

Carp fishing – S2 has finally woken up – thank goodness! It has been the best day ticket water this week with S1 not too far behind but River lake taking a bit of a back seat. We’ve had some really varying temperatures this week from 16degrees in the daytime to minus 3 and a frost on Friday night! Cant believe I had to defrost my car Saturday morning when we are nearly in May!! However, despite the changes in temperature we seem to be well on the way now to the spring fish and an encouraging property average of 19lbs 5oz.

Sunnyside 1
Robert Burrows - Fishing on Sunny one at Wyreside Lakes for the first time ever on peg 8, with a cold wind pushing the fish down the lake into my swim I was fishing 10 yards off the pipe in 6ft of water, using a 7 inch blow back rig with a 15mm cell and a 12mm milky toffee pop up and using a throwing stick to scatter bait around the hook bait, the fish picked up the line and stuck to the bottom then lifted and was staying tight to the snags with careful playing and continuous pressure the fish was soon in the net weighing a nice 25.6lb – a great Birthday surprise for me J
Leon Doyle 48hr on sunny 1 peg 8,first time at Wyreside - I had 4 fish,1 at 6.30 pm Monday night which weighed in at just under 12lb,6.00am Tues morning had a 23lb mirror followed by a 22.4lb mirror and just before midday had a 25lb beauty. All fell to cc moore odyssey xxx at around 50/60 yards out, Will be coming up again very soon, many thanks.
Sunnyside 2
Craig Davies from Wallasey, Mersey side, Taska consultant On arrival I could see some fish jumping to the side of the island so I decided to cast a combi-blow back rig at them with a 15 mm cell tipped of with a small piece of orange fake corn. 1 hour later I was in with a high double after that catch I marked up where I caught the fish and kept on casting to that spot. All Saturday I was catching fish up to high doubles then on Saturday night I caught a 23lb common then on Sunday morning at about half seven I caught this amazing mirror carp at 26lb 2oz which I have nicknamed ‘Pearly’. All together I caught six fish I was over the moon what an amazing start to the season. End tackle included: size 8 kurv shank hook and Taska baseline sinkers and Taska quick change back leads.
John Yates - 20lb mirror from Sunny 2
Yesterday, Sunday the 28th, we had the second day of the WYTS club. We have had so much interest we had to do the sessions over 2 weekends so we had the corect number of staff with the children. Unfortuanltey we wernt blessed with good weather but despite the rain our 9 junior anglers had a great day on the kids lake - starting off with a safety induction and training session with Callum, Sharon and James. The kids picked up the tying knots and learning how to set up a rods very quickly and it wasnt long before they were out fishing on the Childrens Lake. It was great fun and a wonderful reaction from the kids and parents. Our next session will be Sunday the 19th of May and fingers crossed we'll be getting some expert help from the boys at Ted Carters - Preston. If you would like to book your child / children please contact us at reception on 01524 792093. Tight lines everyone!
Monday 22nd April 2013
Another cracking report from the fishery - all lakes now producing with Banton’s and S1 being the stars this week.
Quite a few anglers have had some great sessions,
Gerry Sweeney - on S1 - 14 + 15 + 4x19 +21 and an 8lb tench - pictures on Flickr. He was on peg 11 using Best of British cranberry - he’s that impressed with the bait he’s ordering 15kilo for a future trip in May! He fished around 40-50yds out and put out about half a kilo over 3 rods on his 72hr session.
Mr Oldfield - peg 2 on River Lake - excellent 4 day session with pictures to follow soon, including 2 x 14 +2x15+ 2 x 25.
New members Wayne Aston and David Gostello had a whopping session on Banton’s lake -David was on peg 13 (spit) and Wayne was on peg 11 (lunar) Between them over 48hours David had a 22 and 16 and Wayne 14+2x15 +18+19+2x20+21+25+26 - not bad for their 1st members session! - David said that the wind was on a south westerly, and they were fishing holes in the weed close in. Few spods of particle on two rods, just a few boilies on the other. It’s very encouraging to see the lakes busier and to see the sunshine (Saturday was glorious) so hopefully it’s all boding well - just hope we don’t have 'too much' of the April showers! Wyre and Banton’s members lakes are currently closed today ticket anglers until the 1st of June. It’s encouraging to know that the 'blue dye' treatment doesn’t seem to have made much of an impact on the fishing - we had heard that sometimes it can reduce catch reports in the initial month but fingers crossed our carp seem to have better things on their mind – primarily food! Anglers are keeping their methods quite close to their chests at the moment but I know that white and pineapple pop ups have done well and also the Best of British tiger nut and Mainline Cell. It’s definitely spoding time now as the carp have finally woken up and they are hungry!
The silvers are still doing well also from S1 and Fox’s lakes at the moment with over 60lbs of fish being caught on the week including some fabulous bream up to 8lbs in Fox’s lake - great for any small private matches. Sunday (the 21st) saw the 1st day of the WYTS club and despite the rain our 8 junior anglers had a great day on the kids lake - starting off with a safety induction and training session with Callum in the function room. I sat for a while with a young lad called Sebastian as he was left handed (as I’m I) and we were tying knots and learning how to set up a rod. It was great fun and a great start to the club. We have another session this coming Sunday (the 28th April) and hopefully the weather will be kinder to us and fingers crossed we'll be getting some expert help from the boys at Ted Carters - Preston - so watch this space.............Tight lines everyone!
Posted 8th of April -
Well here we are again – the 1st week of April and it’s time to have a look at the annual stats for
the fishery. It makes for interesting reading and considering that we are in a recession with
lower customer numbers and less bait being put into the waters it’s really not as depressing
as we had anticipated!
Wyre lake – surprisingly the fish average has increased by 6oz but the number of fish caught
has only decreased by 21. Banton’s lake - there are really no surprises here mainly because
of the weed (see below) so there was a significant
decrease in catch reports but thankfully only a 9oz decrease in the lake average.
Sunny 1 – this lake has slightly decreased in its popularity with S2 and River lakes fast
coming from behind and taking over in the runs scores. However it is still encouraging
to see that the lake average has increased by 4oz – again indicative of a smaller water
retaining the warmth particularly in the prolonged winter months.
Sunny 2 – this is the water we eagerly watch – realizing that this is our ‘youngest’ water
it is exciting to see the year on year growth of the original stock which has risen almost
a full 1b on average on the year. Fish catch numbers are again down but this is
explainable with lower angler numbers.
River lake – this water really confuses us sometimes! When it fishes there is no stopping
it but there can be prolonged times of low reports. Again numbers are down on the year
but happily the average has stayed exactly the same which again is indicative of a smaller water.
There have unfortunately been some mortalities but this is to be expected with a combination of
the age of the fish and the severity of the past 3 winters – in winter 2010/2011 we saw temperatures
of minus 15 (we were closed for nearly 3 months) and winter 2011 / 2012 wasn’t much better,
that combined with the chilly, prolonged length of this last winter has also to be taken into
consideration. The fish have still not ‘switched on’ yet and we can determine that on the
recent fish caught from Banton’s in particular there is evidence of some winter
weight loss but hopefully when spring eventually comes with the warmer temperatures
the fish will be hungry and we can restore the status quo. We have recently treated Banton’s
with blue dye to suppress the weed growth and with the wonderful catch report from that lake
this weekend we can hopefully say it’s starting to work! We have been moving carp grown
on in Fox’s lake to the day ticket waters and also several into Banton’s and Wyre.
We would like to thank you all for your support in these difficult times and hope that
you will continue to do so, that we may maintain our good north west reputation!
Tight lines for 2013 everyone!
