Latest Catch report.
Autumn is up on us now and the trees are beginning to shed their leaves and the colours are glorious golden orange. The nights are drawing in, with less than four weeks before the clocks go back. There’s a chill in the air in the mornings and some breath-taking views of mist rolling off the lakes, carp crashing out the water and the purple hues across the Trough of Bowland in the distance. I love this time of year. The past week has seen the temperature average around 15 degrees daytime and 7 degrees at night, the weather has been changeable, with big winds one minute and heavy rain, and the next not a breath of wind and lovely blue sky. The atmospheric pressure has been fairly high at around 1021mbp. The fish have started to change their patterns and started to explore the deeper water and by the amount of fizzing in a morning they are definitely starting to harvest all the natural food out of the weed/silt before it dies off. It’s only a matter of time till the big girls start to get on the munch for the winter.
Starting things off with S2, Winter Member Nathan Winstanley had a successful trip in peg 20 managing 5 bites resulting in 4 fish landed with the best of the bunch being A teamer “Molly’s Fish” at 32lb. All fish came to solid bags fished over a bed of particle just off the island. Next up Levi Walsh also manged 5 bites resulting in 4 fish with the best one being a pristine 25lb common. All fish came from the margins over a spread of boilies. Neil Chapman landed 2 fish up to 19lb. last but by no means least I managed to get a night in and was rewarded with 2 fish toped with a scale perfect 21lb 10oz mirror. Both bites came to 14inch slip d-rigs with yellow essential fruit hook baits fished over whole, crumbed, and halved jungle mix with a good helping of corn and matching liquids.
Now we hop over the bund to S1, Damien Hambleton landed a low double common from peg 6, Stuart Mellor landed 2 fish to 18lbs from peg 7. Next up Scott Hanlon managed 3 bites from peg 8 resulting in 2 fish landed. Alan Harrison landed 3 fish from peg 10 with the biggest tipping the scales to 21lb all caught on solid bags fished at 15 wraps.
Now we run up the hill to Foxes Lake, Stephen English landed a new PB Common from peg 7 in the shape of the “Big Common” at 29lbs 4oz the highest weight to date. Next up Ben landed mirrors of 24lbs and 22lbs from peg 4 fish small pop up to a soft spot just of the bar over a handful of boilies. Lastly Jack landed 2 fish to 20lbs from peg 6 all being caught from the right had margin over a bed of corn.
Now to the members waters starting with Banton’s, Wayne Brides has been at it yet again, this time landing 4 fish including a 30lb 2oz liner toped by “the Irish” at its biggest weight so far at 36lb 2oz. All fish falling to the Krill Active. Ric Bamford landed a 22lb mirror and Shaun Atkinson landed a 25lber. Next up Nick Reading aka “Sumo” landed “round scale” at 28 lbs and John Tine landed a 27lb 2oz mirror. Dave Sorrell landed a mid-double mirror on jungle mix solid bag and Craig Watters landed 2 mirrors weighing in at 25lbs and 28lb both caught on solid bags. David Curwen landed “Jayne’s Mirror” at 31lb 10oz. Jamie Wilding has been at it again this time landed 2 fish topped by “Sally’s Fish” at 20lb 2oz. All fish falling to a mix of Bait Guru boilies with goo infused hook baits over the top and last but by no mean least Neil Bro smashed his PB with “Adidas” at 34lb caught on a jungle mix wafter.
Now to the mighty, “Old Boy Roy” who continues his good run of form, this time landing an unnamed 30lb mirror. David Wearden has been at it yet again, this time landing “the S2 common” at 30lb 5oz yet again caught on an EF wafter over Jungle mix and Salamino. Aaron Westhead landed 2 fish the best being “Single Scale” at 30lb 2oz. Lastly our very own Peter Eastwood aka “the Sheep” landed the “Long Common” at 30lbs.
Now to River, our coarse lake. The fishing has yet again been on top form, with loads of reports of mixed bags of fish, including, bream, tench, carp, chub, roach, and perch. The tench fishing is still proving to be incredible, with many anglers reports of over 5 caught in a day with the average being over 4lb. Our resident coach Malcome had a fantastic 3-hour session landed 15 bream, 6 tench, carp and roach and Jim Dixon had a good 24 hours in peg 1 landing plenty of tench, bream, and carp up to 10lb. All tactics work on River Lake with the current favourites, being the pole in the margins or the tip-rod into the deeper water. Regular, accurate feeding is the key to success, on there at the moment. This lake is brilliant for bites and a good variety of fish it’s also a great place to get the kids into fishing and enjoy a fantastic sport.
Please remember to send in you pictures and reports and don’t forget the kids fishing club on selected Saturdays until mid-September. If you would like to book, please visit the website or for more info please call reception. *Please REMEMBER if you land a fish over 30lb from any of the waters for assistance please ring a bailiff, so that they can come and help with the photos, fish safety, and verifying the weight. Peace out, The Viking.
