Latest Catch Report.

The past week the weather has yet been somewhat unsettled with sun, cloud and some rain thrown in. temperatures been around 14 degrees day time but had a chilly feel to it if you wasn’t in the sun, the wind has been gusty at times blowing in every direction possible, the atmospheric pressure has been high hovering around the 1025MBP mark however this being said the fish are still well up for a feed with some big hit of fish being reported and also many 30lb plus fish and few pbs thrown in for good measure. locating them and staying on the fish is the most important thing but just as important is being well prepared and ready to make tactical changes at the drop of a hat to suit the weather and the fish’s behaviour, for example no point fishing hard on the deck in 8 foot of water if all the fish are cruising on the surface etc.

Starting things of this time around with Foxes, the Norris brothers fished in peg 4 and 5 The first day they managed a 38lb cat on a wafter fished on top of the bar (unfortunately they didn't get a pic as it slipped the retainer), then it seem very quiet. Till the following evening then it came alive and they managed 5 fishing all on falling to solid bags with yellow pro-stim liver wafters. The best of the bunch was a 32lb mirror backed up with fish of 29lb, 24lb 21lb and 19lb what a way to lose your wyreside virginity. Next up Steven Rowbottom managed 10 bites, frustratingly only landing 6. The first 24hr was spent in in peg 11 and he only caught a 16lb catfish then he jumped into peg 7 for the final 24. Hours and it paid of as he landed 5 carp all falling to zigs and wafters. Stuart landed a 18lber from peg one and alan landed a 22lb mirror from peg 3. Lastly Matthew Robert had a cracking session in peg 7 and this is how it went in his words. What an absolute amazing weekend and I'd like to make sure Pete gets a absolutely massive thanks as his advice to jumping in peg 7 and it produced like no tomorrow 9 runs 7 fish on the bank 3 20s and a new PB of a 30 lb they all fell to a DNA baits bug wafter with a small spread of 15mm the bug boilies Fishing about 12 wraps out in open water had 5 fish of that one rod and then the other 2 came from about 6ft off the pipe. The venue is amazing the staff are awesome and I can't thank you enough for this experience.

Now we run down the hill to S1, Charlie cannon landed a stunning 21lb common
Caught on a 14mm pellet, Lee Frank Holmes landed 4 fish from peg 2 with the biggest going 19lb all caught on DNA wafter over a hand full of boilies. Next up James landed 2 fish from peg 11 topped by “Parrot” at 28lb and colin landed a 22lber from peg 8, also ian landed 10 fish up to 22lb from peg 7 fishing tight to the right-hand margin. Lastly I was out for a day tuition with Harvy, we started of by walking around and going throw the key point of watercraft before settling on peg 11 wear we got to work with rigs, casting, feature finding and wrapping before we got the rod out but after a few hours nothing was happening so we had a walk round and found a number of fish in peg 8 so a move was maid for the last few hours and we wasted no time placing solid bag of crayfish mini mix pellets and s7 amino smoke down the margins and it turn out to be a good move as Harvey went on to slip the net under his no pb in the shape of a stunning 18lb 10oz common.

Now we hope over the bund to S2, Ste Taylor managed 4 bites from peg 1 resulting in 2 fish landed up to 19lb all caught from tight up to the margin on flour pop up fished on Ronnie rigs, Jack Chatterley enjoyed his time in peg 16 managing 5 fish with 3 going over 20lb topped by a new pb in the shape of a 27lb 5oz common all falling to cray fish solid bags, Tom did 2 nights in peg 14 and landed 6 fish then moved to peg 9 and landed another 6 fish with 8 going over 20lb with the biggest going 29lb. Chris landed a 17lber from peg 11 and Kiron Nailer landed 3 fish from peg 3 all caught on zigs the biggest one tipped the scales to 25lb Lastly David Leather landed 5 fish from peg 13, with 3 over 20lb topped by “Nutty” at 31lb all falling to northern special hook baits.

Now to the Members Waters, Bantons, Gary Latham landed “Big Scale” at 27lb 12oz, Gary Landed a home-grown baby at 12lb and Shaun landed a lovely scale 29lb mirror, Chris landed “Sams” at 31lb 12oz and Damion landed 2 fish toped by 31lber and a new 30lber for the lakes and he has named it “Kellogg’s” Giovanni Fontana landed 2 fish up to 29lb and Kurt got of the mark with mirrors of 29lb and 26lb both falling to solid bag of rh baits simply red boilie crumb Jamie Davies landed a 330lb 8oz mirror lastly are very own Peter Eastwood landed 2 mirrors topped by “BB” at31lb 8oz Now to the “mighty” Jack landed “red fish” at 29lb 2oz, Alan landed a 29lber from the cabins and Darren Barnett contuse his good run form this time landing mirrors of 32lb topped by the one he wanted in the form of “C scale” at 36lb awesome result. Also, ben landed Aa 19lb common.

Now to River Lake, our coarse water. Is starting to get there properly, however still very dependent on the weather. There are still plenty of reports of mixed bags of fish including coming out daily, however the tench and Carp seem to be starting to get on the feed. Caravan members paul had a nice day in peg 16 landing 9 tench and a carp. At the moment both the feed and pole are working well with a fishy ground bait and pellet. With corn, meat and pellets being the favored hook baits, however the pellet wagglier and slow sinking feeder is starting to work.

The Viking's top tips
1. The weather is up and down, and the fish don’t know weather they are coming or going so fish for a bite at a time until we get some settled carpy conditions then will be the time to give them some good quality bait.
2. Don’t forget your zig and floater gear. Be patient finding the fish and feed the birds off and the bites will come.
3. Be mobile and reactive, as the fish are often on the move and if you are not on them you simply won’t catch them. also, if the fish are in the upper layers and you are fishing on the bottom you need to react and change methods to suite.
4. Don’t leave home without your solid bag bucket this is a massively successful tactic at all times of the year.
5.  Be prepared for the changeable weather ( Water proofs, sun cream, hat, water ect)
6. Remember effort = reward
