Well over the last week the weather has remained unseasonably moody, but mild. We have experienced rain, heavy at times, with plenty of wind getting fairly strong at times and some sunshine as well. The atmospheric pressure has been fairly low hovering between 990mbp to 1010mbp. The fishing has been good, and the fish are definitely on the munch after spawning. The hardest part at the moment is staying on the fish, as they seem to be very spread out and not staying in one place for too long, but if you take the time to find them and feed them with a good quality boilie and pellet, and stay active, the bites will come. Some anglers have reported good sessions. Find ‘em, feed ‘em, catch ‘em.
Starting things off with S1. Dion Tallantire and his friend enjoyed a trip in peg 9 and 10 and managed 3 fish up to around 20lbs, all falling to solid bags, filled with manilla pellets and rock salt, with black and white wafters as hook baits, Lee Flannigan landed a further 5 fish from peg 3 up to 20lb, again falling to hinge rigs with wafter with PVA bags of DNA baits, S7 boilies and pellets fished to the far bank. Next up, David Dann landed 2 fish from peg 4 topped by the “Block Common” at 28lb 5oz. and Keiran landed 3 fish up to 18lb from peg one, also Kenny Young landed 3 fish up to 23lb from peg 6, all falling to a baited area at 17 wraps with pink pop-ups over the top. Lastly Reece McDonald landed 5 fish up to 17lb from peg 2, he also lost a few.
Now we hop over the bund to S2. Nick Reading aka Sumo and his son Henry spent the weekend in peg 3 and managed the stunning “Callum’s fish” at 30lb 12oz caught on stick baits and new PB, what a result. Nathan had an 18lber from the point and Rob landed a couple of mid doubles from peg 6. Next up Jonny Martlew landed a stunning 25lb two-tone mirrors. Darren Davison landed 4 fish from The Point, up to 22lb, all falling to solid bags of crayfish mini-mix pellets over a bed of crayfish pellets and bug boilies and lastly Steven Hewkins landed 3 x 22lbers from peg 18.
Now we run up the hill to Foxes, Joseph Gray finished his session with a further 4 fish up to 26lb, again all falling to captured bait specialist boilies. Adam Bunting landed 2 fish up to 16lb from peg 2 and Steve landed the “Blank” fish at 34lb 4oz. Next up Rick Bamford landed 2 fish up to 25lb from peg 7 and Alan Smith landed 2 fish up to 22lb from peg 6, both falling to solid bags over a spread of boilies. Also, Mark landed a 21lb mirror and 2 cats up to 50lb from peg 7. Lastly Nathan landed fish of 18lb and 21lb from peg 10 both falling to zigs.
Now to the Members waters, starting with Bantons. Timothy Craig has been at it again, this time landing 2 fish topped by “Bob’s Baby” at 35lb 4oz. Rick landed a double and Jamie Star landed a 18lb common, also Jason Tracys landed 3 fish, including 2 x 29lb mirrors all falling to loads of bug boilies. Steve landed his new PB in the shape of “Floppy Tail” at 32lb 5oz . Now to the “Mighty” our very own Peter landed 3 fish including “2-Scale” at 29lb 14oz, “The Leany” at 28lb 8oz and a stunning 25lb mirror. Alan Harrison landed a 29lb mirror and Graham Haye landed a 23lb common.
Now to River Lake, our coarse water and the fishing is on top form now. There are loads of reports of mixed bags of fish coming out daily. However, the tench fishing is the talking point at the moment, with numerous anglers reporting it the best tench fishing they have experienced. Liam Lambert has done several sort sessions and has not had a bad one yet, landing plenty of tench and carp to 11lb, with the best sport happening on the pole in peg 16. At the moment both the feeder and pole are working well, with ground bait or soft pellets. corn, meat, wafters and pellets being the favoured hook baits. The key to success at the moment is definitely work rate and picking a spot and regularly feed and the fish will come.
